Running a GTIN audit

Last updated on 15 Jul, 2026

The audit is EasyLink's starting point: it checks every variant in your catalog and tells you exactly which barcodes are ready to become scannable codes.

Run an audit

  1. Open EasyLink → GTIN audit.

  2. Click Run audit (or Re-run audit).

  3. EasyLink reads your whole catalog in the background — the page updates itself as it works. Large catalogs take a minute or two.

Reading the results

The Catalog health tiles show every variant classified into:

Status

Meaning

Valid

A properly formed GTIN (UPC/EAN/GTIN-8/14) with a correct check digit — ready to publish

Missing

The variant has no barcode at all

Malformed

The right length for a GTIN, but the check digit is wrong — usually a typo

Internal

A barcode that isn't a GTIN (custom codes, SKU-style values) — fine for internal use, but can't become a GS1 code

Duplicate

The same barcode appears on more than one variant — each sellable variant needs its own GTIN

Click any tile to filter the variant list. Each row links to the product in Shopify admin (to fix the barcode) and — for valid variants — to its EasyLink code page.

Keeping the audit fresh

You don't need to re-run the audit every time you edit a product. When you change a variant's barcode, title, or SKU in Shopify, EasyLink updates that row automatically within moments. Re-run the full audit after large imports or bulk edits.

Export

Click Export CSV to download the complete audit — every variant with its barcode, normalized GTIN, classification, and a plain-English issue description. Handy for sharing a cleanup list with your team or supplier.
